HP Pavilion dv4 is powered by Intel Turion II mobile processor M500 / 2.2 GHz, a dual core processor, data bus speed is 3600 MHz, it has 1 MB of L2 cache, has 4 GB DDR2 SD RAM expandable to 8 GB. It has 320 GB hard drive at 7200 rpm, optical drive is DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM with DELL Latitude E5400 battery, LightScribe Technology. The 5 in 1 card reader Memory Stick Pro, xD-Picture Card, SD Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick.
Features:
Even though the HP Pavilion dv4 is a relatively inexpensive machine, none of your friends or coworkers ever need know it. The sleek exterior of the HP Pavilion dv4 1120us looks as if it were carved from reflective volcanic glass. As long as you keep it clean, the shiny chassis radiates professionalism. If you so much as brush the glossy lid with a fingertip, expect smudges that won’t come off without deliberate cleaning.
The design of the HP dv4 has the same heavily chromed accents just like the dv5 and new HDX models. I think that HP went slightly overboard with the use of shiny surfaces and in some instances you end up being blinded by a number of things. When using the outside on a sunny day, the touchpad, speaker grills, media access keys, or even the palmrest trim could blind you if the sun hits it just right. Another high gloss surface that luckily this model did not include is the Infinity glass panel over the already glossy display. The DELL Vostro 1220n battery few models we have had in our offices with that setup make viewing the screen a challenge in all but perfect lighting conditions with the amount of reflections.
It offers dual-core productivity from its 2.1 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 processor. HP’s ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection locks your 250 GB hard drive into place when it senses abrupt motion to help prevent data loss. The built-in eSATA/USB combo port enables fast backup to an external hard drive. Other features include 4 GB of installed RAM (8 GB maximum), ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics with up to 1918 MB of available memory, dual-layer Lightscribe DVD±RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard 54 slot, quad-mode Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), and 5-in-1 memory card reader.
With its sleek white and silver finish and generous selection of multimedia features, you’d never peg the HP dv4 ($749.99 list) as a budget notebook. This attractive 14-inch notebook offers copious amounts of memory and storage, HDMI and eSATA connectivity, and HP’s ProtectSmart hard-drive technology. It even comes with a handy little media-player remote. Its performance is right in line with other DELL Vostro 1220 battery in this price range, too. A higher-resolution screen and discrete graphics would have been nice, but at this price it’s hard to complain. The HP Pavilion dv4 is a striking 14-inch notebook with an equally attractive price. You get a nice selection of multimedia features with this model, as well as solid productivity and multimedia performance.
A glossy black bezel surrounds the 14.1-inch display, which has a relatively low 1,280 by 800 resolution (1,440 by 900 would have been better.) Resolution aside, it is a nice screen. Thanks to HP’s shiny BrightView coating, the display is bright, delivers bold colors, and offers good viewing angles. Unfortunately, you’ll have to deal with the panel’s reflective properties when working under Acer Aspire 2920 battery bright lights. A webcam and microphone built into the screen’s upper bezel can be used for quick and easy video chats and for taking still photos using the included MediaSmart Webcam utility.
The Intel Core i5-2410M (2.3GHz) is a powerful processor for an ultraportable. You’re not getting a low-power CPU here, but something you normally find in full size notebooks or desktops. A mid-range Intel CPU, the Core i5 is designed to handle most computing tasks easily. The 4GB of RAM is also a good amount for an ultraportable, and contributes to good system performance.
As expected for this price segment, the HP dv4 has an LED-lit display that’s adequate for a single user–its reflective nature and limited viewing angles practically guarantee this. For a 14-inch notebook, the 1,366 x 768 display resolution on the dv4 is typical and not likely to earn Acer TravelMate 6292 battery any brownie points. Our review unit came with the optional Blu-ray combo drive for viewing HD content and CyberLink’s PowerDVD 10 for Blu-ray and DVD playback. Altec Lansing speakers provide an adequate audio experience, though they sounded strained at higher volumes.
A touch-sensitive strip at the top of the keyboard controls the volume and has icons for muting audio and turning on and off the Wi-Fi radio. However, there are no other dedicated media controls. The function keys are labeled for play/pause, stop, forward, and rewind, and HP includes a small remote control that can be stowed in the laptop’s ExpressCard slot. The keyboard Acer TravelMate 6593 battery is reasonably comfortable for a laptop this size, though the keys feel a bit mushy. Its keys are glossy plastic, too, so you’ll probably want to give them a quick wipe down when you’re cleaning fingerprints off the rest of the laptop. The system’s touch pad is short and wide, which is only upsetting if you’re used to using a larger. However, the touch pad’s chrome finish is more of an issue as it collects fingerprints and doesn’t let fingers glide smoothly. A small button above the touch pad lets you quickly shut it off the pad if you’re not using it.
Adrenaline for the eyes. Get used to visual euphoria with the HP Pavilion dv4. It starts on the outside with the Espresso Black with Lattice pattern. HP Pavilion dv4 as great looks, delivers according to your expectations. However, the life is too low. If you don’t care about the low battery life or don’t travel much we would definitely ask you to go for this notebook.
